Privacy Policy — Hilombuhay

What we collect

Only what we need. When you subscribe to the newsletter, we collect your email address and, if you choose to share it, your first name. When you write to us through the contact form, we collect your name, email, the topic you pick, and your message. We also gather basic, anonymous analytics about which pages are read, so we know which stories resonate. Nothing more than that.

Consent

Newsletter subscriptions use single opt-in. You check a box confirming you want to receive Hilombuhay, and we record that consent. We only add you to the list when you have asked us to.

How we use your information

We use your email to send you the newsletter on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We use the contact details you send us to reply to your message. We use the anonymous analytics to understand which stories resonate and to improve the site. We never build advertising profiles, and we never sell your data.

Newsletter management (Brevo)

We use Brevo to manage subscriptions and deliver the newsletter. Your subscription information is processed by Brevo on our behalf. You can read Brevo's Privacy Policy to learn how they handle data.

Contact form delivery (Brevo transactional)

When you use the contact form, your message is delivered to us by email through Brevo's transactional email. We set the Reply-To field to your address so we can write back. Submitting the contact form does not subscribe you to the newsletter, and we do not store contact messages in our database permanently.

Hosting and infrastructure (Cloudflare)

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and Workers. Within that, we use Cloudflare D1 as our content database, Cloudflare R2 for durable image storage, Cloudflare Turnstile for bot protection on our forms, and when enabled, Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless tool that does not track individuals. Analytics is only loaded when we have configured it; if it is not configured, no analytics script is loaded at all.

Social media content (Instagram & Facebook)

Our Gallery shows public posts from our own Instagram (@hilombuhayph) and Facebook (hilombuhayph). We retrieve this content on our servers and cache it, so opening the Gallery does not contact Meta directly. Meta is only contacted if you choose to open a post using "View original post". Those external links to Instagram and Facebook are governed by Meta's own privacy policy.

Cookies

We use minimal cookies, and no tracking cookies. When Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled it is cookieless, so counting visits does not set anything on your device. Turnstile may set a token so it can protect our forms from bots.

Data retention

We keep your email only for as long as you want to receive the newsletter. When you unsubscribe, we remove you from our list. Contact messages are delivered to us by email and are not kept in our database.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom of every newsletter. You can also ask us to access, correct, or delete your information at any time by emailing [email protected], and we will take care of it.

Children

Hilombuhay is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we update this page, we will change the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted in the newsletter.
