This Friday, we are looking at two local experiences that let us meet the Philippines from different angles: through the wildlife of Masungi and the clothing of old Manila. A small adventure can still hold plenty of wonder.

Masungi Georeserve is hosting a one-day "Birds and Breakfast" experience on Sunday, August 2. Local conservationists will guide guests through a sunrise hike, with free binocular rentals available for spotting the reserve’s feathered residents. After the walk, everyone can settle in for a Filipino breakfast that includes ube champorado. It is a chance to enjoy nature while learning from the people helping protect it. Slots are limited, and reservations are open until July 30.

Intramuros already feels like a step into another time.
Intramuros already feels like a step into another time. Now you can explore it wearing a traje de mestiza or Barong Tagalog, accessories included. Traje de Intramuros, a rental shop in Fort Santiago, lets visitors experience the Walled City in traditional Filipino attire. Guests can choose heritage-inspired pieces such as the traje de mestiza and Barong Tagalog, with matching accessories and optional photoshoot packages. It brings an extra layer of play and immersion to a familiar historical destination. More than a costume moment, it is also a chance to notice the craft and character carried by Filipino clothing. History feels different when you are allowed to walk through it instead of only reading the marker.
